Epilogue

"Mama!" the sunny cry of a young girl distracted Lukas from his reading. He glanced up from his table in the office he shared with one other research student and saw his daughter flying towards him with arms spread wide.

"Dalia," he cooed, catching her and sitting her on his lap. "Princess, where's Papa?"

She giggled and planted kisses all over his face before answering, "Papa coming!"

"And he's just arrived," Erik announced, strolling into his bondsmate's office with a warm smile. "Dalia, don't run ahead of me next time. That could be very dangerous." As their daughter babbled a semi-coherent apology, Erik leaned in and kissed Lukas.

"Ready to go, Lukas? Reservation's at six, and we'll need time to drop off Dalia at my parents first."

Lukas nodded, quickly shoving his reading materials into his satchel and tidying his desk a little. They left, strolling side by side, and with Dalia wrapped up in Erik's arms. She was a pretty little girl, two years old and a bit, and Erik had dressed her up in her favourite red dress and done her brown hair in neat pigtails. He was a disgustingly doting father, Lukas would tease him frequently. But that eased his heart as well, he would be the first to admit, knowing that his alpha was so capable of taking care of their child. When he discovered he and Erik had successfully mated and a child was on its way, a full six months after they had properly bonded, Lukas had taken time off from his research as well, and he had just came back to continue the previous semester. He truly did love his family, his sweet daughter and her infectious laughter, and there was no way to measure the joy he had knowing that he could still finish his studies as planned—albeit a bit later than anticipated, but these were sacrifices he was willing to make, for himself and for Erik.

Erik, Erik, Erik. He moved permanently out from the islands and into Lukas's home, though he kept his small shack and they had vacationed there for short breaks. He was by far the most capable father, protector, alpha that Lukas could ever wish for.

They dropped off Dalia at the professor's home—Professor Artil and Mali had been over the moon when Lukas and Erik publicly announced their relationship, not too long after they had first met. Their engagement had been met with equal joy, and only the news that a child was on its way brought a greater happiness to the family. The professor had, of course, been absolutely supportive of Lukas's choices, and had helped him apply for the period of intermission.

Soon, Lukas and Erik were by themselves, strolling along the Sonag River towards the Sonala Renoma for their dinner, holding hands and quietly murmuring about their day.

"Happy third anniversary, Lukas," Erik said.

Lukas laughed. "Shouldn't you be saving that for when we've had a bit of wine served to our table and we're toasting ourselves to a bloody fantastic three years?"

"Yes, I suppose," Erik conceded.
